SO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE

It is going to be a very nervous couple of months, that's for sure. We need to get good points from our home games starting with Southend and Bromley. It's going to be difficult but I think 4 points from these is a must.
It's now down to probably 4 from 7 for the relegation spots. I think Oldham upwards will be ok. We are still very much in the mix so no need to panic just yet. I still have confidence that GJ can/will get us out of this mess (even if he probably won't be here next season). But a massive 2 games coming up!!!

New Rule required for Late Postponements.

Somerset. This isn't a pointless thread, it has a lot of merit. The cost to lower league clubs of travelling and hotel costs when games are called off late is massive. This is money they can not afford to loose. In addition, the costs to supporters who have already made the journey.
It is very difficult though as the pitch could be playable on a Friday night but not on a Saturday morning. There is no easy solution. But to call a game off 75 mins before ko is a pisstake!!

Will we stay up?

I suspect he wouldn't have taken over Scunthorpe if there weren't the funds to satisfy HMRC.
I thought Scunthorpe were dead and buried but perhaps this takeover makes it even harder for us to stay up if they have new investment?
Like some have said, this Saturday is a must win game for me.
We could do with a good attendance and everyone getting behind the team.

I would say that a 64% chance of us going down is about right. We need to see big improvements immediately. Is Ellis the answer, I doubt it myself but we probably could do with his experience.
GJ is going to have to work miracles during the second half of the season. I think we need to stick with him though as I don't see anyone else that we can attract being up to it.

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

It's ok calling for a change of manager but who could we realistically bring in that will improve the players we have?
I agree with others that a change of formation is probably required, perhaps GJ is being too stubborn and sticking with his methods.

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

notnow wrote: 26 Sep 2022, 08:59 It’s ridiculous to assume a change of leadership will resolve this. GJ is without doubt one of if not the best manager in this league. What he has achieved with the budget provided is amazing. It was very unfortunate following the exodus of our team who incidentally would have won the playoff final if it wasn’t for the poor decisions made by the officials and btw had Andrews not refused to leave the pitch giving the opposition a chance to regroup while we were on the ascendency, GJ would have achieved all our dreams. Just be careful what you wish for.
Notnow. You say what GJ has achieved with the budget provided is amazing. Do you know what budget we are working with? I know that it won't be the same as Wrexham or indeed a few other teams but I think it certainly wouldn't be the lowest budget in the league.
To me recruitment is the real issue as it was last season. Simply, it hasn't been good enough and something needs to change. There are teams doing better who are working on tight budgets. Is GJ's brother earning his money?
GJ now has to work with and improve the players he has as would any new manager. Therefore, I would personally give Johnson the chance to rectify this. I doubt any other manager that we could bring in would do that better. I think this is a conversation for later in the season. Stick for now.

Ex-Gull watch

I'm not sure that McDonald didn't make any mistakes!!!! I certainly remember his kicking/distribution not being good enough. Like others have said, both were decent keepers for the standard of football they were playing. I don't consider either good enough to be a no 1 at football league level.

culmstockgull wrote: 16 May 2022, 15:12 You make valid points SBP. Personally, for a club in non league football having an academy is a debateable asset, someone may have to remind me who since the academy was reformed has actually made it as a pro footballer, each year we hand out first year contracts to the least worst academy players knowing we will have to farm them out to a southern league team, if they are lucky, because they are not ready for national league football.
I think Slough had enough about him , he was tall and probably still growing, certainly needed some muscle growth but I do recall in pre season he had a good turn of speed, Olaf , what is wrong with him , attitude possibly but seen enough of him to realise he hasnt got the discpline or seemingly the interest to make a pro footballer.
I would scrap the academy and all that it costs and just pick up other league clubs cast offs, we could not do any worse.
Culmstock. I don't think you can call our current youth set up an Academy. Parents pay for the privilege of their sons being involved and it isn't cheap either. The level of coaching is very substandard and certainly not to academy level. It's no wonder we are not producing players. An Academy is unlikely until we are back in the football league as the club can't afford it.

Wealdstone v Torquay Saturday 26th February 2020

Yes, it's not good enough that TUFC haven't released their own statement to the loyal away support and have relied on Wealdstone to communicate this. When will the club learn.
I would think the National league have insisted that the game goes ahead and Torquay wouldn't have any option but to play? But it would be good to hear the club's view
