I do not think GI want plainmoor. It is a the new stadium with TUFC as a tied tenant that they want. I have noticed that whilst Dave Phillips comes in for a lot of flak on here, there is no mention of the fact that the press releases of 16th March about take over being at an advanced stage coincide with the date that Thea Bristow rejoined the board, and I would have thought she would have more influence than Phillips. By the way what happened to the mobile version of this site?
Correction : Thea rejoined the board on 24th March

Next Years Squad

If they do not really want to sign then they do not measure up to Nico's demand that we only have players who genuinely want to be here. So sod them. I trust Nico to get the right players for his squad.

The European Union: In or Out?

Bob cubed's post above is probably the best post there has been on this forum about the referendum. Well done sir.

The European Union: In or Out?

If any of the readers want to vote in, fine, it's your right, but when our country is forced to join the Euro, and god help us if that happens, just look how the Euro, and EU have destroyed Greece.
Britain is not required to join the euro under our current terms of membership, neither are Denmark. It is new EU applicants who are obliged to adopt the euro. If Britain were to leave the EU then find they have made a disastrous mistake and seek to reenter then we will be forced to adopt the euro. So a vote to leave may actually place sterling in greater danger than staying. And don't say it will not be a disaster if we leave because you or anybody else cannot possibly forsee, good or bad, how things will turn out if we do leave.

The European Union: In or Out?

And what about the leave campaigns claims over foreign criminals. Yesterday Michael gove approved the transfer of colin pitchfork to an open prison and we all know how secure they are. Pitchfork was the first person convicted on DNA evidence after he raped and murdered two 15 year old girls, the original trial judge doubted he should ever be released. So is Michael Gove suggesting that it is OK for your loved ones to be raped and murdered as long as the killer is British?

My problem with the leave campaign group is their claims to stand up for low paid indigenous workers and the NHS. Leave are mostly hard right wing tories who despise the poor and would love nothing better than to dismantle the NHS. Now Sarah wooleston has exposed them for the liars that they are.

Burnhamgull, exactly my sentiments again. One thing that has bugged me over the last couple of weeks while Nico has been assembling next seasons squad is the optimism of some posters who actually think we could challenge for promotion, it worries me that if things do not turn out particularly well these people will begin to unjustifiably take it out on Nico just as they did when he first took over the club. Given the budget mid table mediocrity would be s success.

Burnhamgull wrote:Interesting that we've sold so many ST's but still have no intention of renewing mine. Prefer to pay occasional visits from now on rather than have a commitment.

Funny thing is, even if we have a brilliant season next year, I still won't feel moved to attend more often. I hate what this club has done to me over the past few years and watching games at other clubs probably hasn't helped as it's opened my eyes to what a poor deal we get.
I kind of identify with Burnhamgull's sentiments a bit. But the problem I have with watching other teams is the lack of feeling I have for them. The reason I watched Torquay back gods knows when was simply because they were the local professional football team, not because of what TUFC was or stood for. When I was at school I went with a couple of mates, one was a spurs supporter the other supported arsenal, I supported mufc. All of us would rather have been watching our respective 'big clubs' but there it is. The thing is this began my attachment to TUFC. I have been up to Exeter city on several occasions and can see it is a better club, but I do not feel any sense of attachment towards them because I lack the memories that go with watching football at Plainmoor when I was younger.

The Club must surely make a statement of some kind sooner rather than later.
You are far from the only one concerned. But Gullscorers link to the herald express article of 24th may is the closest any of us will get to a statement. Dave Philips can hardly be surprised about any anxiety among the support when earlier this year he said he expected a deal to be done before the end of the season. My fears are that this will fall through and we would have just wasted valuable time that could have been used to find an alternative option.

Retained list out!

I assume that a couple of “months to run” is meant to read “weeks to run” otherwise the part about the end of May would not make sense. I would also be very surprised and shocked if the current owners granted an exclusivity period until the end of July; that would take us right up to the start of next season with the club stuck in uncertainty.
Why have we assumed the exclusivity deal runs out on 30th may?. Because the article certainly suggests it goes on until July. What I mean was 30th may originally stated by the board and have they now extended it? At one point Philips stated he hoped the deal would be done before the end of the season. I wonder if the yellowfest balls up has given GI cold feet.

The European Union: In or Out?

Let's assume we vote to leave the EU; then what? Do we choose the Norway model, the swiss model, the Canadian model, the Turkish model or what? Are we going to need another referendum to approve whatever model the government approves. This is the main weakness of the leave campaign, you do not know what you are going to end up with.

I do not think Dave Phillips would intentionally act against the best interests of the club, also I am prepared to accept the GI may be a good thing, unlike some who appear to oppose it for the sake of opposing it. However even I now admit something seems to be amiss. Obviously the new stadium is key to GI's plans, they would not want the club without the stadium. But if they are experiencing problems with the council over planning permission then the club is in peril. If GI do not get planning permission then I would expect them to pull out of the deal. Then another close season and opportunity would have been wasted by the board granting a period of exclusitivity to a bidder who failed to complete. Last summer an opportunity was lost and possibly again this summer. This only pushes TUFC closer to the brink. Exclusitivity should surely only be offered if the bidder is 99% certain of delivering otherwise they are just time wasting and preventing the club looking at other options.

Only election coming up is the EU referendum. Perhaps GI are hoping to build new stadium with cheap Latvian labour and EU grants. :~D
