Torquay United v Aldershot Town

Another loss. A close 2-1 loss as the lads play a little better from the new manager bounce but the deficiencies in the squad still show.

So you're saying you have no clue what it is then? As that tells us precisely nothing.

STATEMENT OF AFFAIRS?

RichyMills wrote:You think someone wants to buy the club?
He's very clearly the same poster as Mushroom and the all the rest, stirring things up and trying to get the board to reveal things and spread false rumours.

I wish him well too, he could have followed Cox out the door immediately but he did the honourable thing and with the exception of the Bromley match which Edwards was in charge of anyway, neither of his two matches were particularly bad performances. Undone by two set pieces against Boreham and then Ex against Lincoln. Not great performances but given the circumstances he did his best. Little bit disappointed that the club didn't want him to stay around.

Fans Forum - Wednesday 30th September

I imagine it'll be distinctly frostier than the last meeting to say the least. I also imagine the attendance will be rather smaller.

STATEMENT OF AFFAIRS?

Yells wrote:I have done a few calculation and I firmly believe it would be in everybody's interest to get it this Statement out ASAP especially now we have appointed a new Manager. Transparency is not a bad thing for us given what has already been said about our financial position. I believe we will all be pleasantly surprised. It will confirm that the TUFC position at the moment is purely down to a lack of investment now and nothing brought forward from either Thea or for that Bill Phillips and Co.

It's entirely due to Thea, Bill Phillips and Co. Hello Mushroom.

Can we stop mentioning Kevin bloody Nicholson. It almost feels like I'm inside Dave Thomas' head here. Appointing a totally unprepared novice manager when we were fighting relegation the last time is what has lead us to this sorry situation. We need a non league operator, who knows the level of football and has managerial experience. They don't necessarily need to have fought relegation before but they need experience and knowledge of players at this level. There will be managers like this out there, don't panic.

Nicholson or Joyce might as well be signing the club's death warrant.

Cox Resigns

moneylife wrote:Why is Chris Hargreaves getting paid still and we wasnt paying Paul Cox anything but expenses?
Hargreaves was getting paid still because he rejected a pay cut but wouldn't resign for the good of the club. So we stuck him out on gardening leave for a couple months although it appears as though we're nearly about to settle his contract with him.

Because we were still paying Hargreaves and by all accounts we were paying him a ridiculous wage for this legaue (£1.5-2k p/w has been rumoured) we had no money to pay Cox a proper wage as our small budget had to be justifiably focused on the playing side.

Now we've settled with Hargreaves and Edward's wage isn't on the books, we might just have enough to pay a very low wage to a half way decent manager...or we probably don't.

Probably due to his throwing ability, it's not a usual skill and it upsets some defences. Remember Stoke back in the Rory Delap days.

Is it a sign that he just has not got a clue who the next manager could be when he is bandying lazy names like Ling, Nicholson and Joyce, or that he is just lazy? I'm surprised he hasn't mentioned Tully. Or Tim Sills. Hasn't he learnt from the Wes Saunders/Chris Hargreaves outcomes?
Mix of laziness and no clue. It's no surprise that the one time that the Herald Express broke any news since Thea announced she was stepping down was when Dave Thomas was on holiday.

I guarantee there will be nothing about all the rumours swirling around the club over the past week in the HE, nothing about Mushroom and heaven forbid that DT might actually do some investigative journalism and actually discover something (he won't) or make the larger non online fanbase aware of some of the things that have been rumoured the last couple days.

Of the names mentioned in the herald, only Ling would be an option. The rest are too risky in terms of experience. I wouldnt mind Ling + lee mansell as player/assistant.
Ling would probably not be the best option due to his health issues. It's going to be a very stressful job in between the financial issues, fighting relegation (hopefully only initially) and possibly having to deal with other groups circling around the club. Also he hasn't managed in the Conference for a good while now. As much as I'd love to see him back and be greatly successful I'm not sure it'd be the best option. The club absolutely has to make the right decision now because I doubt we'd survive if we went into the Conference South. If we could get him back as an assistant under someone else I'd be all for it but we just don't have that kind of cash in good times let alone now.

It would appear that the poster "wbw" is of the opinion that TUST could never raise the funds to buy the freehold - but then he would, wouldn't he ?..... IF he is someone (or represents someone) who wants to sell the ground off and build houses on it!
Makes two of us. Furthermore how are we supposed to smell said coffee when no one will even brew us a cup? Sharing is caring people.

I think they would. Seems we are at a.mn impasse.

And by the way, TUST never got to the stage of raising money to buy the club, they were asked to step back to allow a deal to go through as they were about to pay supporters direct to do their full report. Just clearing up for inaccuracies there.
I never said that they were, I said they talked about doing so - which they did. Thank god they didn't though because it would be the current problems x100. The TUST's funds would have struggled to cover Hargreaves' pay off if the £1.5-2k p/w rumour is true, let alone run the club and all the other things that have creeped out of the woodwork. I speak as a TUST member but the freehold is a bridge too far, they should focus on things much more attainable.

If they could fund the wages of 1/2 decent quality conference players this season before moving on to more long term infrastructure ideas once the club has stabilised this season, it'd be a much better usage of their time. I'm not saying they should long term subsidise the club but we need to get through this season and there's no point pursuing pie in the sky ideas while the club is teetering on the edge in the short term.

Kit_robin wrote:i At the moment small. But with 6 months notice, and a call to the public that it's us or you, SORRY, I meant them, then I imagine they could raise it in time.

They won't, the greater public doesn't give a toss. TUST has about £15k after months of publicity regarding the future of the club, it nearly going out of business in the summer and TUST talking about buying the club as recently as Spring. Despite all this club threatening trouble and publicity, they've still raised only £15k, at this rate they'll have the money in 2024. Given all this, it'll absolutely impossible for TUST to raise another £135k from such an apathetic public, especially given the abstract nature of what is being attempted - the public will not care to learn the intricacies of why the supporters owning the freehold is important.

Unless Thea gets absolutely wankered one night, slips away from her financial advisers and posts a cheque under the door of TUST HQ it's not happening.
