Dartford v Torquay United, 25th Nov 2023, 3pm
Dave, I was just at the game. I saw us miss an absolute sitter and fail to trouble the goalkeeper again after that. Our defence were incapable of dealing with their rather rudimentary and predicable play. We were that bad.

MOTM - Boreham Wood
Wynter - Defensively he's solid but he also gets forward really well, which was especially noticeable when Edwards came on. They were on the same wavelength from the start. He also almost scored a screamer from a good way out but was denied by the woodwork.
Shaun MacDonald - He didn't have too much to do in the first half but at no point today did he look nervous or unsure of himself. Every ball he came for, he got. Can't ask for much more really.
Opi Edwards - What an impact, he danced past multiple Boreham players on numerous occasions, looking supremely confident. The Boreham defence didn't know what had hit them.
Jamie Reid - Scored another absolute belter and distributed the ball well to allow others to fashion chances.
Connor Lemonheigh-Evans - It was his and Edwards' introduction that changed the game. They made an immediate impact. I thought Evans passing was very good as was his vision. At time him, Edwards and Little formed a midfield trifecta that resulted in some fantastic football to watch.

Torquay United v Borehamwood 3/8/19
The substitutions changed the game, when was the last time we had the squad depth to bring on players who we know can fundamentally alter a team performance? We had the ability to switch things up whereas Boreham perhaps didn't. That midfield play at times when Edwards and Evans came was fantastic to watch.
That said, the first half was poor from both teams. Neither goalkeeper was troubled really and the only talking point was their red card, which was the correct decision. Defensively I think we may struggle against better opposition as Niate did seem to struggle more than Cameron. Our occasional lapses of concentration will surely be punished more often this season.
Overall, I think we'd all have taken 2-1 at the start and it's a decent start to the season.

The new season ahead
True, although Fylde's situation is far more stable than Billericay's as they don't go through multiple managers a season, don't sack them via text for losing a game and don't have an absolute maniac as an owner (and sometimes manager when he feels like it). I'd be very surprised if Fylde don't challenge for the title this season. I think if they fail this time, then that could it for their promotion chances for the near future. Players like Danny Rowe won't want to stick around forever when they could be playing higher up the pyramid.brucie wrote: 30 Jul 2019, 12:27 Just because Fylde are favourites it doesn't mean they will win the league. Billericay were something like 5/2 at the start of the season last year and look how that bombed.

The new season ahead
I'd be very surprised if one or maybe two weren't defenders. I know Hall and possibly Wynter can deputise at centre half if needed but we are light in that position. I'm not 100% convinced that Niate will cope with the increase inequality that promotion will bring so some competition would be welcome.dawlishmatt wrote: 28 Jul 2019, 13:11 Gary Johnson says in his post match interview yesterday that he is expecting to sign three signings by monday. I'm interested to read where in the opinion of this forums users, the team needs strengthening. Obviously i expect these players to be loan signings and will be first team regulars. who then is going to miss out.
As for the other, a striker maybe? At the moment we have Reid, Duku, Keating and Koszela who can play up front. Could be a bit light if Keating is playing in midfield as expected.Would love toes Janneh back but can't see it happening.

2019/2020 Kits
They're already out. As the website proved to be a right faff, I just called the club yesterday and bought one over the phone. I'll pick it up on the first day of the season when I'm next in Torquay.

Play-off Winners?!
Because the FA is still paying for the massively over cost Wembley and as a result wants every game possible to played there. I'd be surprised if there was more than 15,000 in attendance for the play-off final, whoever is playing in it. Before the new Wembley was built, the final would be held at grounds of appropriate size. Either the final was held at Stoke City's ground or Leicester City's. Both grounds are pretty much central in the country, the perfect size, and relatively easy for everyone to get to, unlike Wembley.SatNav wrote: 05 May 2019, 09:43 So Fylde have made the play-off final and Salford or Eastleigh await in the final. Fylde only attracted 1500 for their home play off match against Harrogate. Why oh why is the National league play off final played at Wembley when it will be about a 10th full. There are plenty of decent grounds with a capacity of 20k or so that could host this match. It would be a better atmosphere if it was full up too...![]()

I couldn't believe that Regis started eight(!) games for us. I thought he played maybe three or four but I suppose that's the sort of impression he left. Seeing him get subbed before half time in the Woking game, you just knew he wouldn't be playing again.

Chippenham Town V Torquay United 19/4/19
We were very poor yesterday and I thought both sides were evenly matched, with neither keeper really being tested. As Neal says, the pitch was awful but we just couldn't adapt to it, with Davis and Wynter both trying to pass the ball down the channels along the ground. Time after time, however, the ball bobbled on the uneven ground and very rarely made it to the intended target. This doesn't excuse our passing in general yesterday though, which was often inaccurate and underpowered with Chippenham players frequently intercepting.
I think we'll struggle against St Albans what with them really having something to play for.

An average game but what a day to be a Torquay United supporter. Here's my thoughts from yesterday...

The excitement for the trips to Gateshead, Fylde and Hartlepool is building already.

Tickets for home games
I bought two tickets for the Eastbourne game for Bristow's Bench via the online ticketing system. It was pretty simple, I could pick seats but there were quite a few that were greyed out. I assume these were either already purchased or belonged to season ticket holders.Kingsgull83 wrote: 06 Apr 2019, 20:09 An entertaining and nerve wracking game today. Feel very lucky to come away with a point.
Anyone know what the crack is with our ticket system for home games? If I reserve a seat for where I want to sit on Saturday am I guaranteed that seat? It seems like a free for all on match days and I don’t want to go to the trouble of picking seats if I can’t sit in them.
I know the home games won’t sell out but I want to sit in my usual spot.
The two tickets I bought are on the front row of the Bench in between the dugouts, it's something I should've considered at the time but is the view in any way impeded by the barrier in front of the seats and the stairs?
