Not in a hurry means.......

I thought that statement was the beginning of a relentless campaign to get everyone rallying round and pulling together as one. Ok so it's only a statement but we've had nothing since. My personal opinion is that it is not so much the players we haven't signed or haven't released that is the biggest issue, it's the lazy, presumptious manner which the club have gone about trying to rectify this all round appalling situation. They haven't even tried to con us with pointless media snippets either which is usually the first point of call. It's all still a mess IMO and nobody feels any less rudderless, any more optimistic or any more appreciated than the day we went down.

We're all in it together apparently (although I've not heard anything to that effect officially :-/ )

Maybe we should go and support Derby?

The World Cup tournament sold by FIFA

It's apathy Matt. If Qatar have cheated then is anybody really surprised and is anything really going to be done about it. Is anybody going to be held to account? No is the answer to all so it's not worth getting agitated about. I agree with your post but are your suggestions ever going to happen?

FIFA members are just like politicians so all I suggest is let them get on with it and we just sit back and enjoy the football wherever it may be.

Modern Telly

I've not seen it, not a Gervais fan but a mate says it is really really good so I might give it a watch.

At least it's not a crime drama!

Modern Telly

Quirke

A brand new crime drama

I think Partridge got it spot on when he said that 'people like them, let's make some more of them'.

No point in having a **** telly nowadays really. It's either crime drama or reality cack.

Early bird season ticket deadline extended!

Burnhamgull wrote:Despite having had my ST renewed for me as a "gift" from the family, I'm still disappointed by the clubs lack of charm offensive in the off season. No attempt to woo me and almost taking for granted the fact I will renew.

It would be interesting to see some numbers on ST renewals so far.

So.....when do the fixtures come out?

I'm watching the Peru match and I'm equally as uninspired as I have been since August at club level.
That's the point I've been making for a while Burnham and thank God somebody else appears to concur with me. You've hit the nail on the head. They should be trying anything and everything to get the money out of us but we don't even get any attempts to do so. They don't want our custom enough is the opinion I'm forming. They very well might get their wish.

It's tough times. We've lost our league status, been playing absolute shocking football for the past 2 years or so, appointed a rookie boss who has zero experience of assembling a squad of footballers on a shoestring, we've got some really poor footballers at the club we are stuck with and we can't sign anyone half decent because we've got no cash. The response should be dynamic, power packed, brimming with intent, bursting with resolve and determination, offering us hope, renewed vigour and selling us the new adventure.

The response we have is that nobody seems to be bothered. Renew or not renew? That is the question. (Knew my Shakespeare would come in handy one day. =D ).

It's further apathy and indeed the reason why we can't do a Cambridge. Not because of fans not being interested. If they are not interested then there is a pretty good reason why.

Early bird season ticket deadline extended!

When I say 'inactive' I don't mean necessarily in a transfers sense. We have no cash, we have to wait until the right players become available at the right deal and we are possibly stuck with some deadwood. We know that so perhaps some other forms of pacification would have been in order? A prominent and persistent line of positive communication this past month would have been easy to do and would have secured a lot more cash from the undecided. I keep hearing that the board are fans themselves and they too have money at stake in the club. They are fans obviously, i don't doubt that. Are they businessmen?

Communicating positively costs nowt and a few people may see it as more spiel but if it was persistent and convincing enough then i reckon a lot would have given them the benefit of the doubt and renewed. I have no idea why we've had nothing of any note since we were relegated. It's a lack of effort and presuming that you all will 'be real fans' that is largely grating really. :)

I seem to recall our average attendance actually dropped the year we made it back into the League.

Matt.

We also have a knack of alienating the fans we do have by being inactive rather than proactive which serves to perpetuate the cycle. Obviously I am aware you disagree but this is just my opinion on things and partly why some fans who were wavering about getting a season ticket have now decided not to. It's more money lost and needlessly so.

Mansell gone?

Me too chunks. It just seems that although other fans like yourself are of the same (fair) opinion about the issue, some feel it only appropriate to pick mine out for scrutiny. Makes me feel honoured actually. o:)

Mansell gone?

chunkygull wrote: :goodpost:

I cant believe Mansell has been offered a new deal, whatever it is. No way in hell I would have kept him once his contract was up.I would have thought a fresh start or clean slate and a clear out as much as possible would have been the best way forward. It is definitely time Mansell moved on.

Before all those supporters who have a crush on him kick off and have a go, disagree and shout me down, or Lee spits his dummy on Twitter and whines about Torquay fans not loving him - its nothing personal, his time is up, if not long overdue!

I'm sure he's a top bloke, good to have around the club, great in training, pivotal to spirit in the dressing room and all that, but I just dont rate him as a footballer, I never have. I cant actually believe he has been here as long as he has.

To be fair to him if i had my way I would clear out every last one of that squad if possible with the exceptions of Pearce and Cameron and even if they went I wouldnt lose any sleep over it.

This use of the word Legend for players really gets on my nerves, its bandied about far too easily. All those calling Mansell, Nicholson and Hargreaves legends, I would really like to know what for? Yes they have had good times at the club, yes they have all given 100% when playing, yes they were part of the squad that got us back in the football league, but Legends? Never!

All will go down as part of the clubs history, all might even go down in United folklore, possibly Hargreaves might qualify for the Torquay United Hall Of Fame for his wembley goal and being captain, none of them though are Legends!
Is this not way too harsh then Richinns or is it just saved for me? =D

Why is it harsh? I've admitted he has been a great servant to us in other threads, admitted that he could still do a job for us in the conference but that the time has now come to respect his service but dispense with him for the sake of moving forward.

I'm sorry but I just don't get what you are commenting about.

Even though Manse has gone stale in the last two years, no fan can deny that his spell down here has been a decent one - he (like Nicho) deserves a warm send off if he does move on.

PhilGull wrote: I assume you're referring to our board. If they were to hold a fans forum now what would you want them to say? That they made mistakes, that they are going to learn from them, that they are sorry? What benefit is that going to give us, apart from a few fans revelling in the public humiliation of some bloke called Bill.

We don't need words from the board, we need action in the form of support for the manager to put together a squad of players good enough to compete at the top end of the table. And on that front all the noises I am hearing say so far, so good. Of course, all the noises from Knill were good this time last year, but that's a whole other story!

We need both IMO.

Pre Season Matches

I still think a 'prestige' friendly would have sparked a bit of interest and exposure at a time when we are deathly quiet. As it stands they are all good tests for CH and his squad but in terms of raising spirits they are way off the mark. I guess it's a case of what we want friendlies for, to get up to speed for a new squad or to get annihilated by a bigger and better side. I think given the silence it may have been wise for the club to have arranged a humdinger. Walsall will suffice though.
