Start on the premise that Taunton had a winding up petition and transfer embargo for owing the tax man a measly £14k. Now take into consideration that If you are building a standard size football pitch made from 3G astroturf with floodlights and a fence from scratch, you can expect to pay around £1,100,000. Somewhere in there lies the answer.TommyGunn wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 17:42 I'm surprised clubs like Taunton don't go the 3G pitch route. I don't believe there is another 3G pitch other than Dorchester down our part of the world. Yet in the south east many clubs have them. It's a big advantage for the home team and good for the community.

Message to the "protesters"
Are YOU happy with the way YOUR football club is being run?
All depends what you're comparing it with - Man City or Bury?

It's alway difficult to get a true handle of cost but Maidstone United co-director Oliver Ash posted article a few years back about the challenges the Kent club faced when they were competing in the National League. "It will take longer than we thought to get into the EFL (English Football League) but so be it". I would say they are similar to us so makes a good read. see link below

Club chairman (and effective owner) David Bosomworth, Halifax Town (2019) "it costs on average £150,000 a month to run National League FC Halifax" Town.

I understand the point - Uncle Clarke is a property developer. That's not a crime. For me the root cause goes back to Dave Phillips and co. When they took hold of the club the realisation dawned on them that running a football club was somewhat akin to pouring money down the drain. Success they thought was best measured by the state of our trophy cabinet, rather than the health of our balance sheet. In the modern game's survival league there has to be the trade-off between business and sporting success and I do not begrudge even a property developer for wanting/doing that.
Do I trust Uncle Clarkes intentions: NO! but the guy saved the club from oblivion (albeit for maybe the wrong reasons). The battle for FL status and constant struggle for survival - has, I believe, so far cost Osborne £7million in the past seven years and that commitment should leave us with at least a glimmer of hope. The alternative of staring down the barrel of doomed financial failure by ground sharing with Buckland in the Western League does not bear thinking about. Other options to-date have not been abundantly forthcoming.

If the only solution to all of this "is for a Phoenix club now ... and try to arrange a groundshare with Buckland?" then count me out. If everyone is up in arms for having a bad season in NLS then what hope is there to maintain passion in the Bay for Western League Division football.

I do feel sorry for Taunton - a winding up petition and transfer embargo for owing the tax man a measly £14k and having to sign up three Bridgwater & Taunton College students to make up the squad. If we cannot convincingly beat a college team of under 18 year old kids then we might as well pack up our bags and head home now.

New Blue Card
Indeed, I reminisce back to 1967 before the red card when Bristol City played Tottenham in the FA Cup and Spurs captain Dave Mackay refused to walk when the ref sent him off, After the match he said "I did not feel I deserved to go". The ref was left with no option but to just put Mackay's name in his book (like a yellow card booking) and let him play on. What a legend!

I'm going to take we play with intent as we did against Maidstone. With Slough being the 3rd highest scorers in this league I'm going for a high scoring game

When you look at the highlights take a look at the inexperience of Archer, playing twinkle toes in our half and getting hustled off the ball when a simple pass would have done at a time when we were on top of the game.knightmaregull wrote: ↑06 Feb 2024, 22:04 Absolute screamer but you have to question how he got so free of the midfield to have so much space to strike from.

I know we are going to lose but I cannot bring myself to say it. I will not be going to Maidstone as after the 3rd goal went in for St Albans I found myself auto-scrolling Tik-Tok for the rest of the match.
