Torquay V Kings Lynn - 23/10/21 - 3pm

Delighted to finally keep a clean sheet and 3 points.
I also thought that our midfield set wasn't great. CLE playing on the left of 3 doesn't work for me.
2nd half the formation was changed with Holman being replaced by O'Connell who slotted in on the left and CLE moving more centrally. I thought Kings Lynn actually started the half better however we started to improve and became far more dominant. We had quite a few chances and probably should have done better.
A big thumbs up for Armstrong, strong , direct and quick. He certainly gives us that edge up top that we have been lacking. I thought he combined well with Lolas and based on that performance an exciting young striker in the making. Perritt did ok and seemed to grow into the game more. Lets hope he can stay injury free and there will be some bigger challenges ahead.
Kings Lynn didnt offer a great deal so it really was a game we needed to win.
Well done to all attending i thought the support was good and especially on the popside, great to see the drummer and his crew vocal.

The income that a FA Cup run can provide small clubs in the lower leagues is massive. I cant even believe your argument.

I don't think that last nights defeat is any surprise. I posted a few weeks ago that i didnt think that Gary was capable of turning this around.
Its clear that there is an issue within the dressing room.
Our recruitment after pre season was clear that it wasnt strong enough to compete for promotion. What's the point of having an u18 squad when you never even use them. If i was in our u18 or u16 i would be off because your never going to get the opportunity with this management structure.
The goals we have conceded and the way in which we have conceded them i question Downsey , what is going on there, we cannot stop conceding goals.

Dazza wrote: 09 Oct 2021, 18:12 Don’t you think SBP that such a phone call doesn’t take place virtually weekly.!

So you think Gary isn’t capable?. Name me a manager prepared to come to the South West on middling money, with a middling playing budget who you would assess as more capable.?

Im sure it does happen most weeks. No i dont think Gary is capable of turning this around. That is my opinion. I hope i m wrong.
So you think Gary is on middling money with a middling budget. I dont think. He's the one whose wasting the budget. 3 goalkeepers just to start with.

Myself and other posted their concerns about this squad after the pre season friendlies. Unless this squad is strengthened significantly then this will be a typical result and we will be in the bottom half of the table for sure. That could be being optimistic.
I was hoping that the Wealdstone performance was the start of better things to come however it now just appears that we caught Wealdstone on a bad day.
I think this is going to be Gary's biggest challenge to turn this around. Personally i dont think he's capable. I hope I m wrong.
I bet the owner is awaiting the dreaded phone call" more money please the signings I ve made are not good enough".

For me Danny Wright would be best used off the bench. As mentioned above his age and mobility is affecting his game. You can see it, he gets at his team mates and is always whingeing, he wants everything his way which i can understand however he doesnt have that pace anymore and lets be honest if your the opposing defence your not exactly too concerned as you know exactly what your going to get with him and how we as a team will play. I think we are far more effective with that extra player either in midfield or just behind Holman or Lolos. IMO CLE is more effective playing more central and just behind a no9. This also gives Armani more options. The players were interchanging positions. Yesterday we had on occasions Lapslie in a very advanced role, Wealstone just couldnt deal with anything.
Yesterday Holman looked far more effective, O'Connell played well which in my mind were two players who i didnt think were upto it however what a difference that made to there games.

Torquay United v Wealdstone Sat 2 October KO 3pm

Really good performance today, i thought we looked after the ball well and our passing and movement was good. As another poster has mentioned without Danny Wright we had to do things alot different which we certainly did. For me when we play Danny Wright we look to predicable. Today we had good patterns of play and we moved through the zones very well. Wealdstone just couldnt match any part of our play and the goals just kept going in. I thought all the players played well and i really liked the balance. GJ made good use of his bench who also made an impact in the time they were on.
Joe Lewis's goal is an absolute cracker, i dont think ive seen a strike like that at Plainmoor for years. I feel absolutely privileged to have been there and witnessed that. I think everybody around me were in complete shock. You will not see a better goal in any league this weekend.
For the 100 odd Wealdstone fans who travelled here have to be commended with everything that is going on regarding the fuel situation. Having said that they were awful today, absolutely terrible, some of the mistakes they made in possession were shocking.

Johnson has persisted with Wright for some time now. At 37 years old its getting harder to stay fit and recover. So with Holman as well I can see the leagues defenders really quaking in their boots at that partnership.

Torquay United v Southend United Sat 18 Sept KO 3pm

The 3-5-2 system going forward and then dropping into the 5-3-2 when we didnt have the ball certainly seemed to be an improvement.
This was a very tense game throughout with two sides lacking confidence. I thought we played well in the 1st half with lots of possession and some nice passing and movement. It was nice to see us look after the ball better. I thought bringing CLE into midfield was far better with him and Rodgers seeing plenty of the ball. O'Connell gave us plenty of much needed width and with Shaun M distributing out to the fullbacks the patterns of play was far improved. 2nd half and Southend came out with more intent and there was a period of 5-10 min that they grew into the game however we found a way to attack them down our right with Rodgers and then it was just us dominating and pushing forward.
I was surprised when GJ took off Rodgers??I thought he would have replaced O'Connell.
Then our goal couldnt have come at a better time. Totally deserved without any question. Moxey's cross was absolutely class with a tap in for CLE.
I m delighted for the players and fans todays. I thought the crowd was excellent and provided that lift . I m delighted for the players who at the final whistle celebrated like they had won a trophy.
I m particularly delighted for Lollos who was excellent today. He's been put through it recently. Well done lad.
I m going to celebrate our deserved victory today, I could go into a bit of a rant about GJ, I know alot of stuff has happened behind the scenes.
I ll save that for another day.

I mention about Southend, great support, fair play to them bringing so many down especially on their run of form.
They were poor in many areas and i think they will be having a struggle if they dont change things very soon. They were completely useless going forward.

Torquay United v Grimsby Town Sat 11 Sept KO 3pm

It was stated by many after the pre-season and first game of the season that we had not replaced the players that had left and that this squad was lacking 3-4 quality players.
But some chose to to say that it was too early to tell and give them a chance etc etc.
Well once again after we have been well and truly beaten had home for the third consecutive time hopefully everybody will now see that we are going nowhere this season until the squad is sufficiently strengthened in key areas.

Efete's goal just about sums us up. Bloody pathetic.
We now appear to have a load more injuries and its going to get far worse.

I will leave my final comment to the popside linesman, you complete tw"t!
