Highway to Hele - Issue 3 out now

Really enjoyed the latest issue.

Great insights into the life and dedication of the Ladies' Manager / Driver / Lino / Launderer / Secretary / PR man / Sports Counsellor and Psychologist!

I'm always fascinated to read about ex-players. The Goodridge and Sermanni updates were both interesting and surprising - for different reasons. Yes, I remember Beds' having a good game once too!

Well done for the detective work, and for the zine as a whole.

Torquay.v. Barnet

The ref consulting linesmen is one thing. But at one point, when Vilhete was booked for a clear foul in front of the Popside, the linesman was mouthing "fair challenge" to one of our players.

That lino was disgracefully poor, missing a host of offsides and fouls, especially Akinde's elbow activity.

Sorry, Gloster. Didn't mean that to sound personal, especially after your extensive background work, for which many thanks.

We shall see what we shall see, I guess.

Highway to Hele #2 in stock (Alex Russell, Laura Gough...)

Really enjoyed my copy of HTH. A good mix of the old and new, reliving and forward-looking, interesting interviews, and a professional yet friendly style of presentation. And all for £1. Great value!

Thanks to Rob and all contributors.

Sponsoring the Ladies

That's a great pledge, WY. Fantastic!

Just back from watching the 4-1 win over Frome. A couple of late goals - the last one a long range dipping shot from Laura Gough (inspired by watching Luke yesterday?) - did justice to a deserved scoreline after a lot of possession and some spells of neat passing.

Really impressed with the communication among the forwards, the solid work and distribution of the No6, control and passing of No3, and the running off the ball by the midfielders. They looked well drilled.

Frome were no pushovers with some tidy build up play of their own and a silky breakaway goal at the end of the first half. But overall, the Gullettes dominated the match in long spells, created more chances than the visitors, and took their 4 goals impressively.

Good News from Saturday

That is a relief, Tomo.

But I see WIlland Rovers are still in it, along with loads of other lower league sides. Still plenty to worry about then. :-/

Thought Launa were in administration?
Perhaps our stadium sponsors should have a word with our shirt sponsors

Sponsoring the Ladies

Thanks Matt. I was impressed when I saw them at Plainmoor vs Exeter - some good passing and a cracking goal. I'll certainly turn up at Bovey T before long.

Oh ...
the sponsee was forced to quit the squad
Just re-read my original post and this didn't sound quite right. "Circumstances caused her withdrawal from the squad" probably sounds better.

Sponsoring the Ladies

Last month, along with a few other generous supporters, I had a go at sponsoring a Gullette. This was in response to a persuasive and well-penned plea from Matt, who went on to gather in the cash only to have to return it to senders when the sponsee was forced to quit the squad :(

Prompted by today's item on the official site http://www.torquayunited.com/news/artic ... 02444.aspx I contacted Ant Roach (the Ladies' manager, secretary, treasurer, kitman and stud-tightener) about collective sponsorship. There are other squad members in desperate need of our financial support. Ant seems happy to launch another appeal and will receive our pledges, send us TULFC's bank details for payment, and post a running total on the Forum

I am happy to get the ball rolling (keeper to the edge of the area?) with my £30, but it needs YOU to keep up this passing game until we reach our goal  which Ant will advise.

There's never been a better time to support TULFC - they have a 100% winning record this season (OK, so they've only played one game). They need all the help they can get to sustain them in a higher league this season. There's a lot of talent in the TULFC squad - let's make sure we hang on to it. Come on you yellows!!! :scarf:

Highway to Hele - A Torquay United Fanzine

Very interesting and enjoyable. Well constructed and presented. And all for £1!!

I Liked the variety of content - interviews, research, opinion and fact, looking back and looking ahead, and the personal bits from Mr Dand.

In future issues, more about ex-gulls please. Oh, and "I was there when ..." eye witness reports - preferably just re-living the good times!

Thank you.
