Hargreaves, Hodges and Veysey on Gardening leave

Feel a bit sad about this news. Really wanted Greavsie to be Torquay's Manager this coming season. I wonder what Dan Lavercombe is thinking ? He is probably wondering if the club will even have a goal keeping coach and how that will effect his development.

Potential Signings

Forever, you start by saying "excuses for Chris Hargreaves are rolling out already" and finish with "CH can't be blamed {if the take over is late}".

Until we know what his budget will actually be { this info isn't usually public } nobody can make assumptions that that Greavsie will have anymore peanuts.

Potential Signings

Greavsie must be feeling very frustrated and worried about his role. He most certainly has targets, but can only wait to see what his budget will allow. A lot is against him already and when the results aren't up to what some fans expect, Greavsie will take all the flak.....but will that be fair ?

Celebrity Support... Raising The Profile

Yesterday I was reading John Lydon's life story ( that's Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols ). It's called "Anger is an Energy". He is a life long Arsenal fan and in the book there is a chapter called "The Beautiful Shame", which ends with the words....
"But £75 a ticket, these days, to go to Arsenal? For that money, you should get to have sex with all the footballers' wives! I'd rather go to a smaller place like Torquay United."
I love him even more for that....
Other great quotes are....
Football's the kind of game where, if your team is doing really badly, it gets you into the mode of having a laugh at losing. You can actually look forward to the next tragic defeat. And there's nothing else that gives me that ability. It serves an absolutely brilliant, beautiful purpose. It's the theatre of emotions, not dreams.
The biggest joy of being a football fan is that there is ultimately no joy in it at all. It can always get worse.....That's the joy of football - it's total fuc...g pain, and when you do actually win anything, it doesn't last long enough. The pubs close too early, and it's all over. Everybody goes home, and you're left standing there - whaaaauuurgh!

Talks Reopen

Just read the article and want to feel more positive, but am concerned that on the one hand we have a "healthy list" but if there is anyone (ANYONE ???) else interested, then get in touch.
Wonder who the mystery donor is ? (thank you, whoever you are)

Hopefully we will be getting more updates from the official site now.

Whatever is happening, it's still important that Torquay Fans join the TUST.

Chris Hargreaves services?

The reason TUFC left the racecourse was basically they were forced off. There has been a huge investment into the racecourse and the owners didn't want Torquay training there anymore. I believe Torquay United was paying £10,000 a year for using the racecourse. All evidence that the club trained there has been removed or pulled down. It wasn't ideal, but Scott had established a decent surface over the years.
Also believe it was Colin Lee who done the deal with a farmer to get Newton 66's training ground and that the club is renting the land.

I watched many training sessions at the racecourse in Newton Abbot and most of the time it was a reasonable flat surface. The ground would go very hard if there was a prolonged dry spell and very wet when it rained alot, but it still had better drainage than Seale Hayne.
For a long time the players had to train on quite a sloping pitch at Seale Hayne and when it was wet the ground was a mud quire. A large area was levelled but remained unplayable for a long time because it was just stones and now that the grass has eventually grown it has large areas sodden wet most of the time. There was even frog spawn in the puddles !
It is good that the players can use the all weather pitches at Paignton, but it is not the same as training on grass.

New Owners

It has been stated in a letter from Kelvin that the potential new owners are a "group", so I guess it's not one rich individual....

Whoever they are, they are very good at keeping a secret. There hasn't been any "leaks" of the identity of this group. We still haven't any idea who they are.....????

Forever, although Lingy had financial constraints are they the same as what Greavsie had this season ? I do rememeber Lingy saying it is difficult to recruit players to Torquay and to say it "didn't cause him any problems" is wrong.

"Excuses" are trying to put the blame elsewhere. I don't agree that stating that a lack of an expensive fit quality player, a water logged training ground and lack of funds are excuses. To me they are real problems and I'm certain any Football Manager would say the same and not refer to them as "excuses".
If Greavsie had said we lost because my breakfast was cold or the Gateshead players smelt funny....that would be an unbelievable excuse !
