Interesting.

I'm guessing 5-3-2, with LRT and Senda as the full backs. Strong and mobile centre half trio, potential in the midfield for O'kane to have his "hole" with Wroe and Manse backing him up. Has all the ingredients of a good line up, be interesting to see how it goes.

Nice to see Potter getting a start. I said at the weekend how he seems like the model pro, doesn't appear to be sulking about his lack of action so far. Hope he impresses tonight.

Re: Shrewsbury vs Torquay Match Thread

Still on way home so can't post full report.......

We were great, unlucky not to win. Some of the passing was outrageously good from us. Tactically spot on.

Ellis badly at fault for first goal, caught in possession. Had a poor game by his standards but fortunately branston and robbo were on top form. Shrews only came near our goal twice, bevan won't need to have his kit washed this week.

Eunan O'kane was outstanding, it's worth trying to find a way of accomdating him. Had added a bit of bite to his game. Mansell was outstanding too, wroe started well but his head dropped after the penalty miss and he was never quite the same again.

The penalties - first one never ever should have been given, keeper cleanly got the ball in my eyes so justice was done. Second one was stonewall, don't know how the ref hesitated. Shrews fans were berating the ref for the whole game and will probably blame the result on him - that's just a smokescreen for their own shortcomings.

Carlisle nearly had a goal of the season contender, but hit the post.

To sum up, things aren't all bad. More than matched one of the league favourites on their own patch, just like at vale. 4-5-1 does work SOMETIMES, perhaps not all but it does have it's place. I wasn't at the home games this week, but things certainly aren't all doom and gloom on the pitch as I thoughtthey might be.

Re: Torquay vs Aldershot Match Thread

Useless.

2 points out of 15 is awful form, just like this time last year and look where that got us. Somehow we're still 6th, unbelievable. Hoping this is just some sort of September curse and we can get back to winning ways in October.

Re: Torquay vs Aldershot Match Thread

Totally not feeling it at the moment, even though I'm not even listening (relying on BBC and my mate texting me) I've got no feeling that a goal is coming for us.

Ah well, if everything stays as it is we'll still be 5th and a couple of points behind the shrews going into saturday.

Re: Torquay vs Aldershot Match Thread

Accrington winning now though, suprisingly good season for them.

And Macc winning away again - maybe not such a shock after all!

Re: Torquay vs Aldershot Match Thread

Feel bad for Lathrope, I've been critical of him in the past on the strength of his performances for Bishops Stortford last season, but to be injured (and badly) 13mins into your league debut is a harsh break. Hope he is o.k.

Looks like an interesting team selection. Big and solid at the back so happy there, creative genious O'Kane in the centre with the guile of Carlisle on the wing. On paper, that should work out pretty well. Time will tell............

Re: Kieran Charnock

I turned to mate when charnock came on at the Stevenage game, and said "charnock is probably the best 4th choice centre back in this division" and I stand by that. Would walk into most midtable league 2 sides, kept out by a combination of form and circumstance.

Thank god thats over then. Sort it out Buckle, there is no point being "adaptable" if none of the formations generate a win.

Re: Torquay vs Macclesfield Match Thread

Just the same as last season - good start, awful September. I remember us getting beat away at Macc (Bencherief scored then too) 53 weeks ago!

Just seen that Aldershot have squandered a 2 goal lead at Stockport. Be nice if that demoralises them and gives us a bit of hope.

that'll be it now then, we've played all our cards. Got a lot of attacking power on the field but its getting us nowhere. Depressing

Great.............that will be the sound of the bus being reversed across the Macc goal then.
