On a quiet Sunday with the aid of Gulls Player I reviewed our 26 league goals.
The star striker with 10 was Rene Howe followed by Billy Bodin and Aaron Downes both with 3 and Ryan Jarvis and Danny Stevens with 2 each. 6 other players chipped in with one goal each.
18 shots, 7 headers and 1 off Rene`s backside from a goal keeper error.
When it came to assists Nathan Craig led the way with 5 followed by 3 each from Rene and Nico.
Some of the highlights I picked up from the review was the considerable number of brilliant saves by Michael Poke and just how unselfish Rene Howe is in laying off the ball when he thinks a team mate is in a better position to score.
What I failed to do was to see how many goals were scored from inside the 6 yard box and inside the penalty area.
Another point worth making is Billy Bodin has been very unlucky numerous times when the ball has missed the target by a very narrow margin. He is a much better player than many of us give him credit for and I am sure he will come good with a more experience.
The stand out players have been Rene Howe, Michael Poke and our two centre backs Brian Saah and Aaron Downes. No surprise there.
