This is the best outcome GITP. We've had a bit of a ding dong, still respect each others posts, move on and no grudges held. That is the best way to trade opposing views over the internet. Neither of us has backed down and we both have had our points heard. :-D


Oh and you are right when you say i can't accept criticism to some extent. Not good when you use a forum admittedly but what the hell! :lol:

No need for apology Andy, this is a forum after all. I actually have TWO cocks, one for each of my places. We are shortly to move to only one place, so will have to have one removed (the small one). We'll just agree to disagree about credit to Mr Ling!

What I know for sure is that we must all get completely behind the manager and team for the festive season, bearing in mind that we have three critical games coming up in the next two and a bit weeks. It hurts Gulls fans deeply when we lose to Shi*ty, and we need to beat them in order to celebrate Christmas in style. We like to beat the Cornish, as it makes us feel warm inside. On a personal note, my wife is from Northampton, so beating AC helps me to hold my head up when I visit the in-laws. I also can't abide the "small club" nonsense that I get from Cobblers fans.

And I agree with your comment about Bradford, it is almost as much of a dump as Luton.

Gullintwoplaces, you've no need to be standing up for yourself as i don't mean anything aggressive by what i have just posted and i don't believe it WAS aggressive. All i pointed out is that i thought you had an over inflated ego by you dragging up the quote in an 'i told you so' manner. I likened said ego to 'someone who thinks they have a massive cock' or perhaps someone who drives a 4x4 as big as an aircraft carrier in order to somehow compensate for being an inadequate human. Yes i have a serious attitude problem which i receive help for but on this occasion i don't feel i am asserting it and i feel you are blowing things up out of proportion. I apologise if i somehow came across as agressive, it certainly wasn't meant in that manner, i did mean to have a dig at you regarding your use of reinvigorating this thread because , if we want to be children about it - you started it first.

Your posts are always excellent and mine can be difficult, i appreciate that but i find myself AGAIN having to apologise for something i feel i had legitimate grounds for posting.

Totaly agree, as fan I am indeed deligted with the teams efforts and do have confidence in C/Bs that will take us through to the new year.

I don't want anyone thinking my post was Lingy bashing, the decision to bring in Gus was not to me a sound one, yesterday didn't prove the decision right either, bringing in gus as centre back cover was Martin Lling covering a mistake he made in the summer nothing more nothing less.

This a point I've highlighted repeatedly, and it needs to made when all we hear is how small the budget is, and how little squad depth we consequently have. I have nothing against Thomas Cruise - he put in an outstanding performance against Liverton, after all (!) - but he isn't what we needed or what Ling thought he was when he handed him a contract. That error of judgment has left us with a player almost certainly on first team wages who never plays in the first team.

That said, I think we can pleased with Ling and the side's efforts over the last three games, and be confident that any combination of the four CBs we now have will serve us well into the New Year.

Jeez man, you just can't ever take criticism can you? I am NOT saying that I was proved to be right in any way. I am saying that MARTIN LING was proved to be right. I didn't comment about the signing of Angus MacDonald at the time, so how could I be proved right? If anything, I thought it was odd at the time that he did not sign a striker but made no comment either way. If you remember, many of the comments on the forum in November were hostile to Ling, some idiots even suggesting that it was time for him to go. All I am saying is that he has been proved to be right in the light of all the criticism he received, what the hell is wrong with that? At least I don't take my ball home when I am criticised on here Andy, but I will stand up for myself.

Oh dear, Oh deary me, got up from my night shift slumber saw Saah had been sent off and wondered how long it would be before one of these told you Lingys decision to bring in a centre back on loan was one of a football genious, surprised it took this long.

No, no and no, Martin Ling said he was releasing L-R-T because we needed a more defensive left back and this the important bit "who could cover at centre back" Who did he sign Thomas Cruise who has less chance of playing at centre back than L-R-T and is probably earning more money.

Am I really the only one who can see a problem with Lingys judgment here, so we are now paying a permanent wage to Cruise and a loan fee / % of Aungus MacDonald wages from our limited budget, when there simply was no need to bring in a loan defender if Lingy had just gone out and done what he said he was going to do and sign a left back who could play at centre back.

Of course in the postion we have found ourselves in a C/B had to be signed, but as said if Lingy had just done what he said he was going to do, then the money could have gone on an attacking option we clearly so badly need..why can't we see that, are some blind.

What you were actually referring to in your post was people like me who made their opinions known that signing Angus over a striker was a huge error by Martin. That was my / our belief just like you had yours in thinking Martin had made the right choice in bringing in Angus.

You could have posted something like, it seems Martin's judgement was sound after all and full marks to him. Not basically f*ck off to all you who i think have got it wrong and i am now proved right because of what happened to Saah yesterday.

gullintwoplaces - of course you're right, and I would actually be surprised if we aren't forced to line-up with the two Macs (MacDonald and MacKenzie) against either Exeter or Plymouth, with Downes still just a booking away from suspension himself. I’ve got everything crossed he can avoid it next weekend, otherwise the Exeter game could be even more tricky than it already looks.

My point made at the time of MacDonald’s signing remains: Ling was negligent in his summer transfer dealings. We started last season with three senior CBs (Saah, Ellis, Robertson), and it’s ridiculous we’ve gone into this season with only two.

Sorry Andy, but that is just plain nasty, what is the matter with you? I am not "dragging up quotes", this is a very recent thread that is still relevant. Can't you comment without being so unpleasant? It is not about ethereal powers, it is about GOOD, SOUND JUDGEMENT. I would love to have seen him sign another attacker too, but he chose his priority (rightly in my view) against the funds he has available.

He erred on the side of caution by bringing in another defender and it now appears like a wise decision. More luck than judgement though and i don't think anyone can disagree with that. It was just a safety first policy that has now paid off which you could argue is good management i admit. For those of you slating us for wanting an attacker, we still NEED an attacker which Martin has failed to add. So he has made two decisions, one to bring in a defender which now seems astute and one NOT to bring in an attacker which , with Bodin being out seems a terrible oversight.

I chose to highlight this comment because it is from the Cambridge fan TCP (aka Total Complete Pr**k), but I could have selected any one of a number of others from Gulls fans on this thread. The reality is that Martin Ling's judgment in signing Angus MacDonald on loan has proven to be spot on when you consider Saah's red card :red: against Bradford. Martin's judgment is usually far better than many of the commentators on this forum! We have key games coming up against the scum, the slime and AC Northampton, and we need a solid defence in all of these.
