Good thread.
Personally, I prefer Ling to Buckle. I like that Ling will say things as they are, he's honest, he'll acknowledge when things are going wrong and when changes need doing. As I said in the Martin Ling thread a few weeks back, the fact he won't wait too late before trying to change a game is a major plus point for me - Saturday was a lost cause though.
Buckle did like 'in your face' style, which was quite good, especially with the passing/attacking football we played from January onwards last year. However, had we had Ling in charge for the playoffs, I'd have felt more confident. As perverse as that seems. We've been playing fairly nice football under Ling, I think, but it hasn't been as exciting as it was last season. I thing thats because the dynamic of the team is totally different now - before we didn't really have a targetman (Zebs wasn't one, in my opinion), now we have Howe who can hold the ball up bringing more players into it.
Overall, I wouldn't swap Ling for Buckle; as Dave says, Buckle had more resources, more than Ling has and I feel that Lings doing a good job - and the fact that he'll happily shoulder the blame should it be his fault is a huge plus point for me - honesty like that is something Buckle wouldn't even consider.
