I don't think I heralded the arrival of Brett Williams, but after the telling and painful way Williams punished us for our decision to let him go the first time, destroying us with a hat-trick at Bromley, I thought his return was a positive move. We needed a goal scorer, he had a proven record even though his work rate was questionable. When we entered into the abyss of regional football I think we all thought that someone of Williams calibre would have no problems putting the ball into the back of the net. But that was not to happen, which may have been down to Ower's 'park the bus' tactic's.
Johnson then comes 'bouncing around the ground' with his magic wand and we are all of a sudden one of the best counter-pressing sides in the league with his tactic's of high energy, fast pace, and a high line. A players work rate requirement for this type of game was one step too far for Brett to keep up with and hence he could no longer command a regular place. As a Journeyman, one who has never realised his full potential, I think Brett knew it was time to take another journey to prolong his career. While I thank him for his service and wish him good luck at Sutton, I don't think his time at Torquay will be written into the annuals of history given where we were and where we went during his time with us. That may be a big part of why it is not a more talked about topic on this forum.
