One of my absolute favorite moments, we were losing 1-0 and came back to win. Crewe were top of the table and it was a Friday night game if I remember so it was a bit tasty. We were right behind the goal in the old mini stand, Cyril was to our left lurking in the tunnel, people were talking to him and he was so intense watchingthe game, literally kicking every ball. A great looping header from I think on loan Jason Gummer. The celebrations were mad and Cyril running on the pitch hyped it up. A great pic of the players and Cyril was on the back of the herald and I am sure I read somewhere that Cyril had that pic framed and hung on the wall in his office.
Chunky .... I'm not sure if it was same game that Carl airey scored his record 7th or 8th goal in a row...
If it was , it was a low shot and the goalie messed up a bit and it trickled in the net. Again might be wrong game or even wrong season...??
I was in that mini stand this game v Crewe chunky , the smell of cigar smoke , with coffee fumes is in my mind. Do you remember that big gingerish bloke who always used to shout out a lot ?
Great memories of Cyril and that scene with him on pitch with players sums up just passion he has for our club and players. Makes me wonder just what could have been if we been promoted the season before which we simply just blew it.
Never ever forget when they announced before a game that Cyril had died , bless his soul
