Trevor Shepherd - yes - I forgot he was a loan signing.
Tommy Spratt, in my opinion, was good, Mr. Trojan - but not, as I remember, thought so by many of the crowd.
Bill Kitchener was a good signing. The trouble is, you forget that certain chaps were loan signees once they singed on regularly, as it were.
Don Mills, of course; but before my time. Mind you, the Old Codgery at the back of the pop. side stand waxed more lyrical over Don Mills than the great, the glorious Robin Stubbs.
Incidentally, the administrator has moved my Millenium celebration (I have now been promoted with over 1000 contributions) to the Plopside column. So I'll include it here. I have now been promoted to Player Coach - hooray! Mind you I did have to agree with brucie a few times to get there.

Don Mills the best ever loan signing?

Wivel,

I thought that you had a long memory, what about Trevor Shephard? I'll always remember an overhead kick to score one at the mini stand end. Can't remember the opposition though.

I agree with Wivel : best forward combination was Tommy and Robin - the "SAS" - Spratt And Stubbs.

Best loan signing was defender Bill Kitchener from West Ham United.

Scored 20+ for Port Vale after we sold him for £20k too, showing what we just couldn't get out of him often enough.

Going back to Moore's miss, it was absolutely the turning point of the game. From the second the FGR 1st goal went in, the atmosphere changed and then they also scored with their next two attacks to make it 3-3. For anyone not there, within about another sixty seconds, Moore was then through on goal, and if he's scored then to make it 3-4 it could have finished as anything. He didn't square it when he should have originally, and then beat his man (as per the opening photo) to get a shot away that Moore saved. After beating his man the opportunity to square it was even better but Moore saved his shot and we scrambled it away. A few minutes later we made it 4-3 and FGR never got another decent chance for the rest of the game.

I think Leon Constantine did better for us than most people gave him credit for.

Leon Constantine anyone? I think a problem for players doing well on loan and being lauded as the second coming, then being signed permanently is the psychological pressure of having to live up to that on regular basis.

I do hope that if we get him and can afford him that he plays as well as he did when he came here on loan. too many players have come on loan, done very well and then failed to produce the good when signed permanently. its as if they only played well enough to get the contract and then couldn't be bothered once signed.
