With respect to Dave Phillips, I just can't tell you how much this actually means to a poor old fart such as I that the threat of a possible move away from Plaimoor is now not on.
Selfish? maybe, but when at 54 your memories of visiting Plainmoor are in our head from as early as four, five years old, not sure which, then that threat is gonna hurt. If that's selfish then I'm selfish.
Selfish in that when I'm told we need to move away from Plainmoor to progress when all the time I'm thinking that I'm pretty sure that progression should probably come first and certainly before the demolition of a stand named after a couple that wholly unselfishly saved the club before. I'm selfish that I actually believe encouraging virtual grass roots football is the way forward for the national game contrary to the FA's business ideology. Selfish that I actually believe that almost everyone associated with the club, with the obvious exception of Chris Roberts and Dean Edwards, past and present has actually always wanted the same thing as I, football at Plainmoor to be a source of pride and occasionally against the odds. Selfish that I believe when Chris Hargreaves leant over the gantry at Wembley and screamed "that's for you" he meant it with all his heart. Selfish that I want to walk/drive through Hele Village up Westhill road towards Plainmoor. Wembley way it isn't, but it's a straight line from wherever I am in the world and always will be.
Could go on and on but for now I'm relieved that Plainmoors safe and more than adequate for our club.
Amen.
