Just watched Goals on Sunday on Sky.

Oxford v Stevenage and Morecambe v Plymouth each game had a straight Red Card.

What struck me was the close similarity of the tackle in both cases to the tackle on Durrell Berry.

Its a straight RED all day long.

Well that's fairly obvious - clearly though if the referee had applied the rules correctly Dover would have played three quarters of the game with ten men.

Losing 5-0 is irrelevant, had that scenario happened its likely the result would have been different. Yes we need enough points but officials nee to apply the rules properly. Noone can possibly argue that happened on Saturday.

Losing Berry on Saturday won't be the reason we are relegated.

If we are relegated, it will be because we were shit throughout the majority of the the season, and failed to score enough to points to keep us up.

Echoes of a few seasons back when the thug playing for Northampton took out Billy Bodin, that seemed to be defining turning point that condemned us to relegation then. Lets just pray history doesnt repeat itself, it would be just our sort of luck though.

Whilst it seems obvious from that footage that they should look to protect the injured party I'm not sure they will find the angle good enough to intervene but I hope they do. The FA seem to need neon signs from the offender saying "I went out to do him" before taking action.

It will be interesting to see the Dover fans reaction to the video, because how they respond to it is more than likely very close to how we would if the boot was on the other foot, excuse the pun.

I understand the strong feelings that this has brought up, don't blame anyone for feeling upset. I was thinking about Durrell, good pro, obviously hard working, re-building his career to an extent being brought down by a reckless, irresponsible and unprofessional thug. Torquay rarely in my memory have had players who make that kind of challenge or indeed harangue the ref in that way.
Anyway, we have to do what we almost always do, find a way through adversity and stay up and put one (two)over Dover next season on our way back up.
I shall not be going today but will be back next Tuesday. COYY!

It was even worse close up. I was 20ft away. Payne knew that there was a good chance he would catch Berry and the force he used would mean that his follow through would go through anything besides blocking the clearance. It was absolutely awful. Without exaggeration, probably the nastiest thing I have seen with my own eyes in football let alone watching Torquay (for 54 years). Perhaps I've been lucky, I don't know. A yellow card for that is beyond a joke.

That is an absolutely hideous challenge. Payne has two feet off the ground and launches Berry into the air. What really takes the biscuit is how Payne has the audacity to react to the award of a free-kick against him as though he's made a brilliant ball winning tackle! Either Dover Athletic players are encouraged to behave like depraved lunatics or this Payne should find a new career before he injures someone else. This event has really sucked all my energy of the relegation battle. At the moment, all I can think about is Durrell Berry and wish him the best. Sickening tackle.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it might be a bit over the top, but having seen the tackle I'm with you, portugull. The club must pursue further action. I hope a lawsuit is forthcoming as well.

Jeff your impression is out of date.

The Rule I stated word for word is for season 2015/16.

I will be very disappointed if the Board do not refer this to the F. A. first thing on Tuesday morning.

The referee made a serious error of judgement.

Ben Thatcher was given a yellow for elbowing Pedro Mendes in the throat and nearly killing him, which got upgraded to a 10 game ban by the FA.

Withouth 10 slow motion replays and national outrage on MOTD and in the newspapers though, there is pretty much no chance.

Just a horrible situation for the player. He'll be out of contract soon and surely now without a source of income for the next however many months.
