A midfield of Trollope and Buckle with a ball player like ORiordan in behind and an outlet to hold the ball and dribble at the opposition like Goodridge! Blimey - quality, quality players (quietly sobs and rocks backwards and forwards).

Further to my comment on Raynor and having also watched the Preston video, what a dreadful surface that was. Yes, the ref lost it completely and was probably influenced by the hostile crowd. Not many decisions went our way that night and I had a long drive home seething and stewing on the injustice of it all (didn't they lose in the final though?).

At the time of writing this note PNE are on Sky playing at their new stadium, what a difference from the old Deepdale, and how far have the fortunes of the clubs changed since then.

Loram was sent down - and Bateson was fed up!

first time I have watched the Preston game since I was there, what a good footballing side Torquay were and what a bunch of thugs Preston were. As for Raynor a thug and and a cheat. The ref lost it that day, still gutted after all these years.

I was there. The day out was fine; the game, though, was - for Torquay United - a reflection of the all the teams that have appeared in our colours since the dreadful relegation in 1972. They were o.k., but outclassed by Bolton Wanderers. Didn't Sam Alladici, sorry, Sam Allosaurus - no, Sam Allardyce (I'm getting all mixed up here) play for Bolton on that day?

Despite the result it was lovely to see that team, containing Gregory Goodridge. That was a great season and marked for me a return to regular attendance, having moved back to Torquay during that season.

What memories of the Final. I was with my father who was 69 at the time - a life long fan. I never thought we'd see Torquay play at Wembley. I still have the flag from the final hanging up on the wall in my garage. Makes me smile every time I go in there.

Thanks for posting the footage. So many memories. Great stuff.

That Wrexham match is legendary and seemed to herald a new era at United - it coincided with my dad And I deciding to attend regularly and so many exciting un-TUFC like events occurring in such a short space of time...I quickly left the childish support of boyhood idols Liverpool behind and became obsessed with heros who seemed real - have never looked back. That game signalled the dawn of the hope filled years - bit like that edition of Top of the Pops which had the Stone Roses and the Mondays on and heralded the 90s (even though it was 89)
Think it was so much more exciting because things had been so dire previously - oh for some unexpected joy and hope now!!!

I remember the Wrexham game well, first match of my first proper season, I was stood with Dad in the grandstand enclosure just in front of where the guy used to film the games, we always watched from there in those days. Wrexham scored first early on, many sighs and groans and someone said here we f***** go again. I can picture Tom kelly running back into the goal to stop the ball, he ended up somehow legs in the air and his feet got tangled in the net. Then we cracked in 6, WOW, I remember as the goals went in the pop singing we want 5, then we want 6, then we want 7, also renditions of nice on Cyril for Cyril Knowles and of course my favorite (see bottom of the post).

Another thing about that game was Paul Shane from Hi De Hi which was popular on BBC at the time was sat up just behind us in the grandstand, I think he was doing something at one of the local theatres, as each goal went in he was actually jumping up and cheering on Torquay. :scarf:
