Only two teams in the championship are part time and the first division is a mix between full and part time. There are a lot of teams within 45 mins from Edinburgh, Alloa and Livingston are very close.

I'm not too sure. Not even all of the Championship is full-time, so he'll be stepping down to part-time football. Scotland's not a huge country, so if he's willing to travel a bit there are some choices. He'll need a 'proper job' anyway, so might as well choose a location he wants to settle in.

Assuming he were to stay in Edinburgh, are there many clubs based locally other than the obvious two where he could potentially get a deal?

I always want young players who have left us to do well. I don't know why as it means we have missed out!

Eunan O'Kane would never be playing for a top of the table Championship side though if he had not left Everton when he did. He had to drop down a few levels to get first team football and develop into a player who could then climb back through the leagues. If Everton had kept him and only given him reserve team football at best then he wouldn't have developed in the way he has now.

Hearts should be back in the SPL next season and I would be very surprised if he made it there. Possibly he will go out on loan to the Scottish lower leagues which are part-time, and of the same sort of standard our other released players will be joining in the English pyramid.

I agree it was a good read but it shows there is something wrong with the system in this country if we are discarding players as we can't wait a year for them to develop. Does this mean the individual is a bad player ?? No it just means people's bodies develop differently. Eunan was released from Everton as he was physically weak and now look at how well he is doing. It just took him a bit longer to get there.
From all accounts Hutchings has settled in very well up there and in this article it looks like they may change his position

I really cannot get my head around this one. Some posters have suggested that he was released to save money but as I understand it, he was under contract until the end of the season so we would have had to pay up his contract. So where is the money saving? The lad has been kicking his heels, hardly getting a competitive match all season - surely it would have made more sense to continue paying his wages and send him out on loan so he'd get some match experience? I have never seen him play so can't comment about whether he has a future in the game, but I seem to recall that Man Utd and Arsenal had him on their radar so he must have had something about him. Now Hearts have snapped him up for nothing and said 'thank you very much'. As others have posted, good luck to the lad. I hope he gets more games than he's had at Plainmoor.

Only on trial-by no means certain he will be kept on.

Anyone watching Ives over his last few games would have noticed that he had a problem with his mobility and he had been playing with a bad back. The youth game played at Plainmoor he struggled and a few weeks later he was in the first team when Cruise was injured. He was carrying it then.

I could be wrong but I think that he is injured and yes he is disappointed with his offer and yes another club is waiting in the side lines but I think the report on him in the Express saying he'd been told to rest and has gone home to Ireland to rest is the more likely to be right. This is that is what you do with bad backs, rest at his age.

It's a shame that the club cannot increase their offer but if he's been offered a deal with a club in the football league then so be it and best of luck to him.

I still have not changed my mind that he will make the grade if he stays here or moves on but the club will miss out on a good investment when and if he goes. :keepie:
