Hi Brett, yep I know, and respect your back ground in professional youth development football. Thing is your talking about clubs like Cardiff who are very well financed, Premiership/Championship clubs by and large either have a cat 1 or cat 2 youth set up (expect Yeovil who don't have a youth set up) clubs that have development/performance/satellite centres backing up their academies, and have soccer skills schools link ups and college football links ups right the way across the U.K, Europe and some worldwide, your talking about clubs that have reserve teams, "A" teams and development squads , who have the luxury to keep 16-22 year olds in the hope they will turn into that late developing golden egg.
We're TUFC we only have a certain amount of money, I look at Yeoman, Craig, Sullivan, Hutchings and to an extent Thompson, ok these players probably aren't on big money, but no of them were deemed good enough/developed enough by successive managers to play in League 2.
And that's where part of the problem lie's, we don't have the money, time or luxury as bigger clubs do to keep this number of players in the squad that are neither fit for purpose in league 2 or ready for league 2. Not going to by a hypocrite, have said on a number of occasions don't like the loan market, however come to realise for our club, I was wrong to have that view point.
With the lack of finance our club works off, we should have cut a lot of those players listed above and others, run with a much smaller squad with the emphasis on quality, and had money left over for good loans, and not screwed around with these freebie loan players who were by a large no better than what we already had.
