He did have an awful game that day. I used to go to primary school with Mark Coombe and also played at Torre Trojans with him. I remember one day, we played a Chelsea youth team in a game that Colin Lee organised - at the time he was a Chelsea player and had played for Trojans as a youngster. The Chelsea staff were raving about Coombesy. It always seemed, as a youngster, that he would go on to great things but it never happened and the last time I saw him - around 20 years ago - he was a milkman. He was on the books of Colchester at one time but I think he ended up playing at Western League level for the likes of Elmore.

I can still remember the Exeter derby when he let in four howlers.

Bomber Brown wasn't that bad for us. he was top scorer in his first season.

it hasnt changed since then, it is debatable, there were quite a few from the 95/96 season which could easily make the list. there isnt really anybody last season or this i would say would make the list (hopefully they dont, but there are a few possibilities).

neither though, from what i have seen is there anybody i really rate very much in the last few seasons either, some people tend to hype up or under-rate players in recent times but most of them have been bang average at best or worst.

A nice thread for the positivitists (made that up - shall i patent it? :ping: ).

Billy Bodin is up there along with Jamal Easter but other than that i don't think there have been many players who 90% of the time whenever I've seen them they have been passengers and we'd been better with 10 men. We have had some average players in the last 6 or so years I've been following us but none that were almost permanently rubbish.

Tom Warrillow, an Aussie centre half, Tony Fowler, Graham Fowler, the hasbeens sign by Dave Webb, Dave Webb himself.

We have had strong characters in recent years, Hargreaves, Nicholson, Sills, Mansell; all good leaders

Someone mentioned Dean Mooney. I agree dreadful but I think there were worse than that. John Staples, a full back. Some of the French contingent were dreadful because once signed up didn't try, example Sissoko and some others I can't remember.

And then there was Jean Pierre simb, a Torquay legend. If your too young to know nothing about Jean, do yourself a favour and find out, a real character, great fun but totally useless. He scored at Plainmoor and the celebrations were unforgettable, running to the pop side. Any vids of this guys, would love to see that again.

In my view, if a player isn't good enough its not his fault, if he doesn't try then that's a different matter. I wasn't there for the Rochdale game but if any players really didn't try then that's it for me, goodbye.

Another point, looking back, there seemed to be more characters around, even though the football wasn't great for long periods like today. We seem to lack big personalities or players with character. Or is it just me deleting the years of durge .
