I have spent many a happy hour chatting to Paul, Lucy. His football knowledge is fantastic and his passion for all things TUFC is legendary. However, our Paul is not really "Gadget" aware/minded. He has, only recently, become the proud owner of a mobile phone so, although an intelligent man, I think the delights of the TUFC fans forum are not really Paul's "Thing" 8-]

Mrs Bastard, Paul's delightful mum, sometimes comes to home matches' with him. Again, having spent time chatting to her, I can see where Paul gets his charm and enthusiasm from. A lovely lady, who I know, in recent times, has not been in the very best of health.

one thing to say about paul and ive had the pleasure many times of chatting to him is his extensive football knowledge he really does talk a good game i chew the fat every away day with him i find him a delightful fella whos passion you can tell after only a few words the bloke loves all things torquay good on you paul.

Joe Harmer was Crunch's, rather more benign, predecessor, although having had a wack with the cane from both my recollection is that there was little to choose between the two when it came to their prowess at corporal punishment!!

I was at Torquay Boys' Grammar. Paul was there too. I think he is a wonderfully eccentric fan, and I look for him at every game. He makes me smile, a great character. I have a vague memory of teachers using B'stard, but I have tried to blot out my days at that school, which I hated. My hatred is largely due to to appalling GC Smith, MA (Oxon) who became headmaster when I started. I heard that the previous head was ok, but Crunch Smith was a right B'stard.

New poster, having been content until now to read and enjoy the banter from a distance. I was prompted to contribute to this post, principally because I too was at school with Paul B. Indeed we were in the same form throughout our "secondary school" years and, as my surname immediately followed his alphabetically, I can still recall the stunned silence, closely followed by mass hysterical laughter from the assembled first-formers, when it was first read out by our teacher at morning registration! My recollection is that most members of staff fairly quickly adopted the "B'stard" approach to Paul's surname (long before Rick Mayall's excellent TV characterisation), largely I'm sure to avoid the inevitable comments and attendant uproar from his fellow pupils, not to mention their own obvious embarrassment!

Paul's status as a "super fan" and his unique match day appearance are in stark contract to what I remember as a rather reserved school days demeanour (although he was, I recall, a fairly solid left back in his own right), and his subsequent career as national wine buyer for a major supermarket chain - now that's what I call a class act! TUFC are, I'm sure, rightly proud to call him one of their own.

Well. so you don't think he reflects well on the club. coming from someone who has done nothing for the club and only asks what the club can do for you.I would think pot and kettle come to mind. At least he is not an embarrasment to the club like you whingers are.

I wonder if many of you can remembe him at Cheltenham. He took out his napkin. Food, Knife and fork and prepared for his evening dinner. I was almost waiting for the wine waiter to come over and offer him a wift of the lpocal plonk. Then the stweards got invpolved because they thought he had metal knife and fork. But it was plastic coated with a chrome look. It fooled them, and they were too embarrased to admit it. We just peed ourselves hearing him have a go at them.They were one the verge of chucking him out.

diamondgirl i remember him doing that at oxford,tucked his napkin in his collar and had a salad with his knife and fork great guy love this club

I was with Paul, that day. We actually walked out of the ground together. Paul then decided that he needed the loo, so he went back in. The rest is history, and such a funny story. It could only have happened to Pauli B.

Do you remember, as well, when we were in the conference. We were at Kidderminster (or it could have been Burton Albion) for an evening game, which was televised. They actually homed in on Paul, at half time. There he was with his tupperware box, full of healthy salad, resting on the crash barrier. He had a proper knife and fork and a serviette tucked into the neck of his shirt. What you didn't see was that he finished his meal with a very tasty yoghurt, and, of course, a proper spoon. Classic.

There was another funny thing that Paul did on sat. It was in the first half and Ricey was down our end. The ball went over the goal line, and over the barrier. It was a close tussle between, I think Tongy and a Bury player. Paul did his usual and went to retreive the ball. He held it under his right arm, His love of TUFC and enthusiasm makes everything right (for a couple of hours) in this world.

And there was of course the time that he celebrated an FA Trophy win at Newport County in 2007 by getting locked in the toilets at the ground overnight. Didn't get on the telly, but it did get in the papers. I went to the same school as Paul, although he was a few years older than me, I couldn't forget him because of his name.

I'm sure there was a time when we scored and, as he celebrated, threw his food all over him.
