Disagreement with good cause, I like, I enjoy, it's why I come here, because I like arguing the toss. I may be a sad old bastard, but I like batting opinions around to and fro and seeing where we end up.
Disagreement and argument based not on the content of the post, but on the poster alone makes my heart sink and my soul weep for the futility of it all. Be true to yourself. If you dissent from my view for plausible reasons, then fine, but if you agree but choose to dissent because you don't like 'ferrarilover', then you really need to ask yourself if you couldn't better use your time doing something constructive.
I have no doubt that, had I posted a damning report on Benyon and stated that I love Callum Ball, that a number among our membership who would otherwise have posted similar would post their opinion as quite the opposite, merely to dissent from my view.
This seems churlish and spiteful. I am not concerned with that. What does perturb me is that these posters are willing to dissent not only from me, but from themselves in order to 'stir the pot'. This, quite apart from being enormously pointless, is one of the saddest things I can imagine. An opinion held for the purpose of contrary is no opinion at all.
Matt.
