Thanks Andy, it actually hurts to see Gillingham doing so well this season BUT they have the cash and home support (mostly Chavs). It was great pipping them to the play offs the last two seasons.... Totally agree re Ling, upset a lot of people with my early season comments (as did you !). But we are both still here and totally behind the GULLS.

Snap Coley, i'm a lone Gull, far from the south devon sea, flying above the terraced houses of grim northern villages looking for other Gulls to go chip hunting with! I know how you feel mate. Often our concerns come across as negative but i guess we don't get that sense of relaxation that other fans get who can mingle every home game and chat and make themselves feel more positive and comfortable with how we are doing.

I've only been to 1 home game this season ( beat me!) but i've been to 11 away which will be 12 if we aren't safe by the time we play Morecambe. I bet you're gutted that Gills are going up as it's your nearest game isn't it? I'm still working on trying to get down there, my only obstacle is cash and the fact as it's within 100 miles of LONDON and i may come out in a rash and experience panic attacks and severe nausea but fingers crossed. :~D

For me it's as simple as seeing a mid table team suffocated and turned into a relegation side under Ling with little hope and optimism transformed into one which are now performing more or less like they should have been most of the season and this has convinced me that we're good enough to win a couple of our last 5 games for sure.

Coley, i know where you're coming from mate but i've seen 2 of away games under Knill ( Accy and Northampton ) and the others we drew at Daggers and Southend. The home games have started to bear fruit and lets not forget we beat Chesterfield AND York despite immense pressure to do so. Before Knill came in ( and even a few games into his time here ) i had also written us off as i couldn't see where goals let alone wins were coming from but we've stopped the rot, turned the corner and are now putting in some performances worthy of the shirt whereas York have plummeted lower than us, haven't stopped the rot by winning games and playing better. York are down barring a miracle. There is no way with 5 games left they can suddenly do what we have done whilst at the same time expecting all the teams above them not to pick up points. York are gone so that leaves one spot left. You know i'm a 'realist' shall we say but now i just cannot see us going down, much of my concerns about personnel, tactics and approach to games for the last 6 months have now been addressed by Knill and if Ling had done the f*cking same then we wouldn't be having this sh*t your pants end to the season illness or no illness. We got a draw in promising circumstances against Daggers and Southend, we deserved a draw at Cobblers and really frustrated a team with the best home wins record in the football league, we did the business under pressure at home against Spireites and York after 3 consecutive home defeats. All this for a team looking like we were going to 'DO A YORK' a few weeks ago. We're not going anywhere Coley, trust me. If we go
down i'll be the first to come on and say i got it wrong as unlike a month ago, i just can't see it coming.

As for the ref denying us a win at Northampton, i think we need to stop blaming the officials for decisions and crack on with getting the game won. Yes he was crap, yes we should have had a pen but so should they, anyway, there's no guarantee we would have scored it. We couldn't defend when it mattered and they could, we couldn't score a goal when it mattered and they could and that's why we are both in the positions we are in currently. He booked some of our players when he should have booked some of theirs too but didn't, apart from that he was equally atrocious for both sides so we didn't lose the game because of Mr Sheldrake. We lost it because they scored and we didn't.

We'll be a league 2 club confirmed in the next 3 league games. Don't worry Coley, it's in the bag mate!

However, if we win tomorrow and York and Aldershot don't, I will join you and admit that we are safe. I'm just naturally cautious !

Yes I suppose that I am a doubter, but I see the situation as I see it, it is totally a personal opinion and not supposed to try to influence the opinions of others....I was relieved that we won the last two home games and got a point at Southend but we were shakey and unconvincing that we had definately turned to winning ways. I want survival as much as the next fan but I'm not getting on a 'high' yet as the low in bottomless... remember last season ! It wasn't so long ago that most people on here had written us off....Yes, let's all be hopeful but also cautious... None of us are on the pitch, so it's basically out of our hands !

Most of us seem to be pretty optimistic, despite the Northampton result.

The important thing is, even for the doubters, is to support the team, because they're doing all that can be asked of them, and don't deserve to go down. In fact, the quality of our players and squad is good enough to form the basis of a promotion push next season.

If they carry on playing the way they have been recently, all will be well.

We win two games = staying up
We lose one away from home against a team in great form, fighting for promotion and by the sounds of the game deserved a point, with a stonewall penalty and the referee not on our side = going down

There's no doubt I'd rather be in our position than York or Aldershot and it is in our hands.
And IF we beat Barnet then that should probably get us there as it would mean we would have a 4 point advantage over them with only 4 other games.
Also thinking positively I think we are capable of and COULD win remaining games, it's just I wish I was thinking we WILL win them as it's at this stage that teams fighting relegation start getting points. I know Alan Knill seems to have bust a gut to get a loan striker, but with Rene on the verge of being ruled out, it would have been comforting to have got a striker who would have added decisive extra quality.
The strange thing is if we do go and get the 2 wins at least that we are hoping for to keep out fo the bottom twoh, plus picking up a point or two elsewhere, not only would we likely stay ahead of those below us, but we would probably catch some of Dagenham, Wimbledon or Rochdale and finish up about 7 or 8 places off the bottom.

Highlighted all the teams I think are still in the relegation fight, and as you can see we are by no means the worst off in terms of current form.

Also York play Plymouth Monday, and both York and Aldershot have to go to Northampton, all the evidence we need that 49 pts should be enough.

Seems to me that silly season on this forum has started again.

Two days ago everybody was over the moon that we had been on a good run, that we had pulled away from the bottom two, that we were playing well and that there was cause for reasonable optimism. After ONE set of games, yes ONE (!!!), suddenly (according to one person) we are in trouble, York are Barcelona and on a great run, and our fate is no longer in our hands. What utter pap, we are still doing OK, played well at a team that had won NINE games on the bounce, got robbed by a dodgy "referee", and York only got a DRAW at a team towards the bottom end of the table. Jeez, I despair. I am under no illusions about how difficult the job is, of course we could still go down, but there is good reason for hope!
