Well, actually, was he really that sneaky? Would you openly tell any company that you are intending to leave when your new job isn't sorted? Some might say yes, some no, depends usually on the situation. But would you tell the customers you're dealing with? Of course you don't. You would never tell your customer tell you're leaving before having a job sorted because they won't have confidence in the product you're selling.
If you actually think about some of the stuff you hate people in football for doing, then compare to what people around the world do every day, without anyone batting an eyelid, you really wouldn't see many differences.
