Hi I'm a Barrow fan coming for the game on Saturday. Looking forward to it - hope it's a good game.

I am so pleased you stayed up. My dad used to support Torquay in the 60's he was working in the area and met my mum ( who was born and brought up in Torquay - hele village) They married in 1966 and moved to Barrow in 1967 nearer to my dads family. We used to come to Torquay a lot to visit my gran and grandad and mum still has a Devon accent despite almost 50 years in Barrow.

I know my dad would have loved to be able to make the game on Saturday but he passed away a few years ago.

So I have great affection for your town and I'm very much looking forward to the game.

Hope you enjoy the game on Saturday. It should be a party atmosphere at Plainmoor as it's our last game and against all the odds, we will be in the National League next season. I remember Torquay playing Barrow in the old Fourth Division in the 60s & 70s. We liked playing Barrow 'cos I think we usually won ! So it's good to see them rise from National North oblivion and have a reasonable first season in the National League.

I have to say that we were shafted by some of the dross that Paul Cox brought in during the short time he was our manager. He resigned rather abrubtly after a disagreement with a certain individual who also shafted the club, but is no longer at Plainmoor. Paul Cox seems to have done okay for you in Barrow ....... but I hope you won't be too disappointed when you lose on Saturday.

They had 3 seasons in the old Third Division with us as well, and when we just missed out on promotion in 67/68 finishing 4th Barrow had a good season and finished 8th.

Yes, I remember the Barrow games in the 60s. Before they were (dare I say kicked out) of the Football League we always seemed to win 6-1 0r 6-2 at Plainmoor.

Yes just as I remember it forever - note I didn't have memories of comprehensive victories! Only a couple, that 6-2 at home in 1964 and a 4-0 away in October 1969 (I was on the pitch at Plainmoor on that day and heard the 1-0 half time score relayed over the tannoy in the second half). Wonderful thing though memory from 50 years ago. Those long and hazy summers when it never rained and those Christmases when it always snowed! ;-)

Forever - thanks for trawling up Fifties and Sixties statistics for those elderly members, Stefano & Wivel. But I do remember those long hot summers when it never rained and when it always snowed at Christmas ........

What a shame forevertufc, I was looking forward to an emotional match thread for this one, you can't have a barrow fan gate crash our party.

No worries, I'll try and put together a write later in the week and post it on here, if I'd done it seperate the threads would only end up being merged.

As another old codger, I recall those matches against Barrow (and Workington) after Divisions 3 and 4 were formed from the old regionalised Divisions 3 South and North. Until then, being a Barton boy, I thought that 'up north' was anywhere around Haccombe, Daccombe and Coffinswell so it was a rude awakening for me to see matches against teams from such places.

So how did our team get to away games from 1958 onwards?

Nowadays, my wife and I regularly holiday in the Lake District using the motorway system to get there. On one holiday I was browsing in a secondhand bookshop and I was surprised to come across a programme from one of our home matches in that era and it contained Eric Webber's match notes on the previous game which had been at Barrow. In the days before we could borrow Truro's coach the players had to catch a train there and back (actually, more than one train as there would have been any number of changes in a journey taking a full day or night each way with puffing steam engines and no high speed trains in sight)
