Champions Again!

Post by TorquayFans.com »

Torquay United’s Under-18s sealed their third successive South West Counties Youth League title on Saturday, following an emphatic 5-2 win at Yeovil. A trip to face their Somerset rivals is always a key date on the South West Counties calendar, and with Kevin Wills’ side knowing a positive result would seal a hat-trick of league titles for the Young Gulls, it would have been understandable if a few nerves were on show against The Glovers. However, United stood up to the task magnificently by producing a performance to remember to seal the title on foreign soil, as goals from Tom Chastey (2), Liam Poole, Will Brennan and Under-16 call-up Lucas Robinson saw them run out comfortable winners on Saturday morning. The result sealed a season to remember for all involved, including manager Kevin Wills, who followed up the success of previous U18s bosses Chris Todd and Ryan Dickson by securing the league title in his first year in charge. Image With assistant manager Paul Bishop and physio Bess Ashworth helping to ensure his transition was a smooth one, Wills explained this success was very much a team effort. “I’m really pleased for the players,” said Wills. “They have got their just rewards for all their hard work and commitment. “They are a fantastic group, and they have been very consistent throughout the course of the season.” Congratulations lads!
