No he doesn't; linesmen are instructed to think before they flag.....

The ref has 'first dibs at it' from his angle and only when the ball hits the back of the net does he need to intervene which he does by standing his ground in the required manner.........and the ball had gone out of Chester's penalty area; if the clearance had not fallen to an opponents feet then there would have been no need to have flagged anyway.

Fair enough clearly dangerous play but had Gray fired over the game would have re-started with a goal kick

So what about this scenario - the linesman doesn't flag. The ball is cleared to the halfway line. We subsequently win the ball back - mount another attack and score from it.

Does the linesman then give the original foul? - of course he doesn't so we would have benefited because the official was "thinking" and didn't give the correct decision because the defenders had cleared the ball.

If we scored two minutes later it still wouldn't be the correct decision because Chester would have not have been awarded the foul

That's just daft - he rightly gave the correct decision so he sticks his flag up and there is no grey area.

I'm only telling it to you drawn from the up to date Fifa directives to match officials Brucie and that seems to be what the officials were quite rightly adhering to.

That would indicate dangerous play without contact ~ seeing as the victim received a broken nose one would assume there was contact, but that actual contact had been missed by the officials and play should have re-started with a direct freekick......there's no denying it was dangerous play, whichever way you look at it.

Worrying how easily influenced the officials at this level seem to be by players. Neither ref nor linesman sees the need to stop for the high boot in the build up...only when the linesman's been surrounded by Chester players does he 'remember' it was a high boot :whip:

Looks like a much better performance from the highlights. Just gutted we couldn't hold on cause that would've done wonders for morale.

Only four clubs had a lower attendance than Torquay on Saturday, and this includes Ebbsfleet where the attendance was just 30 less than us. Gives an indication of what direction the club is going. We are no longer a 'big club' in the National League as some like to think we are. Surprised that top of the table Dagenham & Redbridge only managed to pull in just over 1300. With no Premier or Championship games, I would have thought they would have pulled in some casual fans.

I don't think casual fans exist like that anymore. Gone are the days when the likes of Tranmere played their home games on a Friday night so they could get all the Liverpool and Everton fans turning up.

That's why it's vital for the small clubs to treat their fans with respect and consideration otherwise you get one man and his dog turning up eventually.

A simple premise that successive Torquay boards have failed to grasp. Not just Torquay though but a large proportion of clubs in the bottom 2 tiers and supposed pro clubs in the NL are run appallingly with a blatant disregard for paying fans.

Those who don't learn will eventually pay the price. York were the last major casualty. Torquay next then Chesterfield after that. Chesterfield bear all the hallmarks of a club in disarray and on the gradual decline due to ownership issues and the immoral running of the football club.

GI don't have any intention of swelling the Gulls attendance figures. The way they have gone about things is indicative of that. The only ones who will lose out eventually are the fans.
