FA Cup Round 1, Torquay vs Rochdale 9/11/13

Yes the officials were poor, yes Rochdale were the much better team and much more organised. We on the other hand continue to play park kick-and-rush, and even though we have a big loanee target man we generally kept the ball away from him. Looking down from the Bench it was so easy to see how strun...

A couple of months in

Are we not getting off the main points of the original post - yes, the fact is that AK loves amassing forwards and particularly wingers, and is wedded to a 4-2-4 formation with no midfield creativity. It just is not working as other teams control the midfield and outmuscle our wide players. In the s...

Re: Torquay United v Mansfield Town - 19/10/13

Jeff, I do like your post about aiming for the near post - couldn't agree more - but, alas, our team and manager do not seem to know there is another post other than the far one. At least our beyond the far post strategy would be foolproof if we had anyone tall enough and half proficient with header...

Re: Torquay United v York City - 5/10/13

Back to beyond square one - yes we have to cope with injuries etc and new players getting to know one another, but we have to face up and recognise that our current style of play/formation must change in accordance with the unavailabilities and the dire need for points. Why can the professional mana...

Re: Torquay United V Cheltenham

Yes we can all enjoy the first home win - what a difference when we play as a team - supporting, harrying together, passing with purpose - and only looked like letting Cheltenham back into the game after we went 3-1 up then stoppped playing football and reverted to banging the ball high and long any...

Re: Torquay United vs Oxford Utd 17/08/13

Yes the ref cost us vital decisions, yes we had more attempts on goal, but, as against Wimbledon, it was a disjointed performance - we do not look to control a game from midfield, and in playing two wingers they really have to be brought into play more and to look interested in taking on opponents, ...

Re: What is needed ...

Please please can we get someone EXTRA in midfield to be available/spare/creator, preferably someone who is comfortable in possession. What we saw last night was a disfunctional group of players who just were not comfortable on the ball and who failed to produce the basics - ball control, passing, t...

Re: Torquay United vs Rotherham United

Midfield and wrong decision-making are our main problems - in the first half we made chances by passing movements, but in the second half we went long or tried inaccurate cross-field balls - switch play by all means, but not to the extent of leaving one man out wide on his own or squandering possess...

Re: Jarvis

We do all seem to agree that the midfield is the main problem, we just have no-one as the spare man who is always available and confident to control and to spread the ball - perhaps it is time to abandon the 4-4-1-1 approach and have an anchor man in midfield. Against Fleetwood it became a 4-2-4, wi...

Re: Lets be positive..

It would be easier to get positive if only Lingy would sort out what type of team we are - it is claimed that we are a passing team, and yet we spent most of the second half hacking the ball away and hoping the unsupported Rene would get on the end of it. Only one attempt on goal in the second half!...

Re: What a dilemma

If nothing else we need Lee Mansell's energy and desire on the pitch, and we need Nathan Craig to be able to make the incisive passes he is obviously capable of (although not in evidence against Dagenham as he was mostly on defensive duties). No-one seems to be thinking the apparently unthinkable of...

Lack of goals

Why can't we score? Is it the system? - eg. our top scorer has taken to making runs to the wings (and provides potential assists) but this often leaves Danny as our only player in the penalty box, and do we really expect Danny to outjump the defence and plant a header (especially as we nearly always...

Re: A turning point?

What a difference to make a great result - real team commitment and purpose (except from our Swindon loanee who did not look a team player), stemming from sensible formation - commanding keeper, Saah's best game, holding midfielder to allow Eunan to roam dangerously, energetic forwards (except Bodin...

Re: It's not all Brian's fault...

Whilst it might not be all Brian's fault, the fact is that he does not tackle, does not attack the ball, and loses his man, ergo why is he at the centre of defence? This has various knock-on effects - we have a good shot-stopping goalie but he is quiet and does not command the box or his back 4 suff...
